Car and Driver’s Ten Best list is awaited every year by car enthusiasts. While the magazine is known for its opinionated, snappy, and sometimes snarky prose, they’ve become an authority because they have spent decades putting hundreds of cars through their paces, and they have a good eye for value and quality. The Porsche of Nashua staff were glad to see two of our own cars make the list for 2016: the 2016 Porsche Cayman coupe and the 2016 Porsche Boxster convertible.

It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the cars were chosen, or that Porsche cars hold down the magazine’s three top spots in the Sports Car category (the Cayman, Boxster, and the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 comprise the top three). While the 911 Porsche has been the linchpin of the Porsche lineup for half a century, the Boxster/Cayman tandem gives the 911 a run for its money in every respect.

Why? There’s power to spare thanks to the choice of 2.7-liter flat sixes tuned to 265 or 275 horsepower, or a 3.4 liter flat six that puts out 315 to 340 horsepower. The transmissions — a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch automatic that has a manual shifting mode — ensure that all that horsepower, and the torque that goes with it, doesn’t go to waste. Both cars’ relatively light curb weight (3150 pounds maximum), mid-engine layout, and excellent suspension ensure exhilerating handling.

And if all that wasn’t enough, there’s the simple pleasure of easing into the cockpit and putting the pedal to the floor. Yes, these are gorgeous cars. Sure, the sound of their engines will give you goosebumps. But like anything else that’s ever rolled off the line at Porsche, the Boxster and Cayman are driver’s cars first and foremost. Come to the Porsche of Nashua showroom today (or call ahead to (888) 695-4130 to schedule a test drive) and experience the thrill firsthand. After all, while a Car and Driver Ten Best pick is impressive, the impression that counts most is yours.
