The Car and Driver 10Best rankings have been eagerly awaited every year since they first appeared in 1983. Porsche cars often feature on the 10Best list (indeed, the Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman twins made the list this year). But tastes are changing, and the truck segment — which also includes SUVs and crossovers — now account for nearly 60 percent of the market. Where does that leave Porsche SUVs?

This year, there’s a second list: the Car and Driver 10Best Trucks. The inaugural class features the 2017 Porsche Macan. Your Manchester area Porsche dealer already knows it’s a great vehicle, but the recognition is always nice. After rigorous testing, here’s what the writers had to say about our favorite compact SUV: “Credit Porsche with focusing on the ‘sport’ part of ‘sport-utility vehicle,’ relegating utility to the working-class utes with too many seats and cargo holds stuffed with enough fertilizer to turn weekend relaxation into yard-work hell.”

They went on to praise the combination of turbocharged power, a low center of gravity, excellent grip and braking, and its tack-sharp, responsive steering. In a segment where the offerings range from ponderous to blah, it offers a sprightly ride with excellent handling, regardless of the trim you choose.

We’ve covered the Porsche Macan in this space before, so we won’t belabor the specifications. Besides, the specs only tell half the story — and not even the more significant half. To experience the good parts, you’ll have to visit Porsche of Nashua at 170 Main Dunstable Road in Nashua, NH for a test drive. See for yourself what makes this compact crossover so special. It just might end up at the top of your personal ten best list too!
